{"id":10494,"date":"2014-12-04T05:00:27","date_gmt":"2014-12-04T10:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/?p=10494"},"modified":"2014-11-30T12:17:40","modified_gmt":"2014-11-30T17:17:40","slug":"more-on-the-cookbook-approach-to-econometrics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/10494","title":{"rendered":"More on the Cookbook Approach to Econometrics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fellow agricultural and applied economist Matt Bogard had <a title=\"Applied Econometrics\" href=\"http:\/\/econometricsense.blogspot.ca\/2014\/11\/applied-econometrics.html\" target=\"_blank\">a very nice post<\/a> last weekend discussing\u00a0my own post last month on <a title=\"In Defense of the Cookbook Approach to Econometrics\" href=\"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/10439\" target=\"_blank\">the cookbook approach to econometrics<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>It is the gap between theory and practice [of econometrics] that has given me a ton of grief in the last few years. After spending hours and hours in graduate school working through tons of theorems and proofs to basically restate everything I learned as an undergraduate in a more rigorous tone, I found that when it came to actually doing econometrics I wasn&#8217;t much the better, or sometimes wondered if maybe I even regressed. [Note: Ha! &#8211; MFB.] At every corner was a different challenge that seemed at odds with everything I learned in grad school. Doing econometrics felt like running in water.
