{"id":1436,"date":"2011-03-25T07:57:02","date_gmt":"2011-03-25T11:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/?p=1436"},"modified":"2011-03-25T09:48:43","modified_gmt":"2011-03-25T13:48:43","slug":"madonnas-malawi-charity-fails-blames-former-trainers-husband","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/1436","title":{"rendered":"Madonna&#8217;s Malawi Charity Fails, Blames Former Trainer&#8217;s Husband"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An <a title=\"Madonna\u2019s Charity Fails in Bid to Finance School\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2011\/03\/25\/us\/25madonna.html\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a> in <em>The New York Times<\/em> this morning discusses how Raising Malawi, the charitable foundation Madonna set up with the goal of building a school for girls in Malawi, is a shambles.<\/p>\n<p>This comes after the foundation&#8217;s executive director &#8212; Madonna&#8217;s former trainer&#8217;s husband &#8212; left last fall after being criticized for his management style.<\/p>\n<p>Madonna set up the Raising Malawi foundation with the goal of building a $15 million school for 400 girls:<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8220;On Thursday, in conceding the shortcomings of her charity, Madonna issued a statement saying she was still intent on using the organization, which has raised $18 million so far, to advance improvements in the beleaguered nation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">&#8216;There&#8217;s a real education crisis in Malawi,&#8217; she said. &#8216;Sixty-seven percent of girls don\u2019t go to secondary school, and this is simply unacceptable.
