{"id":155,"date":"2011-01-03T08:26:01","date_gmt":"2011-01-03T13:26:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/?p=155"},"modified":"2011-01-10T19:38:11","modified_gmt":"2011-01-11T00:38:11","slug":"folbre-on-trees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/155","title":{"rendered":"Folbre on Trees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nancy Folbre, whose 1984 <a title=\"Folbre (EDCC, 1984)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.jstor.org\/pss\/1153501\" target=\"_blank\">paper<\/a> in Economic Development and Cultural Change used to be \u00a0required reading in my development seminar has an excellent <a title=\"Tree-conomics\" href=\"http:\/\/economix.blogs.nytimes.com\/2011\/01\/03\/tree-conomics\/\" target=\"_blank\">column<\/a> in today&#8217;s <em>New York Times<\/em> on the economics of trees.<\/p>\n<p>In her column, Folbre addresses trees as private and public goods, coordination failures in tree planting, deforestation, carbon sequestration, etc. I only dream of writing well enough so as to eventually be able to effectively address so many issues so concisely.<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in the economics of common property management regimes, Jean-Marie Baland and Jean-Philippe Platteau have a <a title=\"Baland and Platteau (2003)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science?_ob=ArticleURL&amp;_udi=B7P5M-4FD79WK-9&amp;_user=10&amp;_coverDate=01%2F01%2F2003&amp;_rdoc=1&amp;_fmt=high&amp;_orig=search&amp;_origin=search&amp;_sort=d&amp;_docanchor=&amp;view=c&amp;_searchStrId=1594788935&amp;_rerunOrigin=scholar.google&amp;_acct=C000050221&amp;_version=1&amp;_urlVersion=0&amp;_userid=10&amp;md5=fb3f44b2902a122788459dba27275678&amp;searchtype=a\" target=\"_blank\">chapter<\/a> in the <em>Handbook of Enviromental Economics<\/em> on the topic.
