{"id":4599,"date":"2011-11-09T05:00:40","date_gmt":"2011-11-09T10:00:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/?p=4599"},"modified":"2011-11-08T19:46:12","modified_gmt":"2011-11-09T00:46:12","slug":"the-causes-and-consequences-of-famine-slides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/4599","title":{"rendered":"The Causes and Consequences of Famine (Slides)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last Wednesday, I took part in a panel discussion at Wake Forest University titled &#8220;The &#8216;F&#8217;-Word: Famine in the 21st Century,&#8221; on the current famine in the Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n<p>The other two participants were <a title=\"Charles Kennedy\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wfu.edu\/politics\/kennedy.html\" target=\"_blank\">Charles Kennedy<\/a> and <a title=\"Sarah Lischer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.wfu.edu\/politics\/lischer.html\" target=\"_blank\">Sarah Lischer<\/a>, both professors in the political science department at Wake Forest. Sarah talked about the humanitarian consequences of the current famine, most notably the refugees coming into Kenya. Charles talked about US foreign policy in the area. I learned a lot from both their presentations, given that they covered topics that I was not familiar with.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The Causes and Consequence of Famine\" href=\"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/BellemareTheFWord.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Here<\/a>\u00a0are the slides I used for my talk, which was titled &#8220;The Causes and Consequences of Famine.&#8221; The link opens a .pdf document.
