{"id":6121,"date":"2012-03-19T05:00:19","date_gmt":"2012-03-19T09:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/?p=6121"},"modified":"2012-03-18T17:10:38","modified_gmt":"2012-03-18T21:10:38","slug":"slides-of-my-keynote-lecture-at-last-weekends-economics-and-management-of-risk-in-agriculture-and-natural-resources-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/6121","title":{"rendered":"Slides of My Keynote Lecture at Last Weekend&#8217;s &#8220;Economics and Management of Risk in Agriculture and Natural Resources&#8221; Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/IMAG0727.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6133\" title=\"IMAG0727\" src=\"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/IMAG0727-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/IMAG0727-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/IMAG0727-1024x575.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I was trained as an agricultural and applied economist, so I have spent a lot of time doing research on risk as it relates to agriculture and development (see <a title=\"Bellemare and Brown (AJAE, 2010)\" href=\"http:\/\/dx.doi.org\/10.1093\/ajae\/aap006\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a> and\u00a0<a title=\"Bellemare (Land Economics, 2012)\" href=\"http:\/\/le.uwpress.org.proxy.lib.duke.edu\/content\/88\/1\/155.abstract\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>\u00a0for published articles).<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, I have been involved with the annual Economics and Management of Risk in Agriculture and Natural Resources conference for the past few years.<\/p>\n<p>I first presented at that conference in 2009, and since I had then volunteered to organize the conference, I was in charge of the conference program in 2010 and of logistics in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>This year, I was asked to give the keynote lecture, in which I chose to discuss what the &#8220;credibility revolution&#8221; that took place in economics over the past ten years or so &#8212; which has lead to economists to adopting stricter standards of evidence and of statistical identification &#8212; means for agricultural and applied economics as a field.<\/p>\n<p>In case you have an interest in this topic, I am making the\u00a0<a title=\"Slides for SCC-76 Keynote\" href=\"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/BellemareSCCKeynote.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">slides<\/a>\u00a0of my keynote lecture are available. I think the content of those slides is especially relevant for current graduate students of agricultural and applied economics.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Economics and Management of Risk in Agriculture and Natural Resources conference is usually held somewhere on the Gulf Coast. This year, it was held in Pensacola, FL.
