Yesterday night was the first of several salons to be organized by the <a title=\"Duke to Launch Africa Research Initiative\" href=\"http:\/\/www.dukechronicle.com\/article\/duke-launch-africa-research-initiative\" target=\"_blank\">Duke Africa Initiative<\/a>\u00a0(DAI).<\/p>\n<p>As per the Chronicle article I linked to, the DAI &#8220;serves to consolidate the efforts of Duke professors who have research interests on the African continent.&#8221; The DAI was generous enough to give me a small grant to organize a conference on African political economy\u00a0<a title=\"Midwest Group on African Political Economy\" href=\"http:\/\/people.tamu.edu\/~kdionne\/MGAPE\/\" target=\"_blank\">African political economy<\/a>\u00a0on campus in a few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Last night&#8217;s salon was held in the Gothic reading room, at room in Duke&#8217;s Perkins\u00a0library\u00a0which is exhibit A in support of my claim that I work at Hogwarts:<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_7847\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7847\" style=\"width: 500px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/GRR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-7847  \" title=\"GRR\" src=\"http:\/\/marcfbellemare.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/11\/GRR.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-7847\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Duke&#8217;s Gothic Reading Room (Source: Duke Libraries.)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>And here is exhibit B: <a title=\"Duke Researchers Perfect the Original Invisibility Cloak\" href=\"http:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/alexknapp\/2012\/11\/14\/duke-researchers-perfect-the-original-invisibility-cloak\/\" target=\"_blank\">Duke researchers are working on an invisibility cloak<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I rest my case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I am seriously beginning to think that I work at Hogwarts.
