There is nothing special about those articles beyond the fact that I thought they would be of interest to readers of this blog. Those are also regular articles&#8211;there is an entire special section of this <a title=\"Food Policy 44(1)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/journal\/03069192\/44\" target=\"_blank\">latest issue<\/a> dedicated to impact assessment in agricultural research, which you should check out.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Donovan and Poole (Food Policy, 2014)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0306919213001383\" target=\"_blank\">Changing asset endowments and smallholder participation in higher value markets: Evidence from certified coffee producers in Nicaragua<\/a><\/strong>, by Jason Donovan and Nigel Poole.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Most households built elements of their asset base, and increased their resilience to shocks.<\/li>\n<li>But they also struggled to make effective use of the gains to intensify their livelihoods.<\/li>\n<li>Paper highlights household heterogeneity in asset endowments and its implications for rural development.<\/li>\n<li>Poverty reduction through market-related interventions requires that the underlying constraints on household investments be addressed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Costa and Haddad (Food Policy, 2014)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0306919213001577\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>The politics of success in the fight against malnutrition in Peru<\/strong><\/a>, by Andres Mejia Costa and Lawrence Haddad.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Government success in reducing stunting resulted from greater policy coordination.<\/li>\n<li>Pooled nutrition funding enhanced incentives for institutional coordination.<\/li>\n<li>Longer term commitment to nutrition was reinforced through electoral campaigning.<\/li>\n<li>Civil society pushed nutrition advocacy and monitoring efforts through a coordination platform.<\/li>\n<li>Nutrition targets became binding when linked to poverty reduction strategies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Belton et al. (Food Policy, 2014)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0306919213001632\" target=\"_blank\">Faltering fisheries and ascendant aquaculture: Implications for food and nutrition security in Bangladesh<\/a><\/strong>, by Ben Belton et al.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We analyze data on fish consumption in Bangladesh collected in 1996\/7 and 2006\/7.<\/li>\n<li>Consumption of fish from capture fisheries declined, particularly for the poorest.<\/li>\n<li>Total fish consumption was maintained across all income groups due to aquaculture growth.<\/li>\n<li>Contribution of essential micronutrients from fish may have declined for the poorest income groups.<\/li>\n<li>Aquaculture\u2019s contribution to food security has only partially offset capture fisheries losses.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a title=\"Brooks (Food Policy, 2014)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0306919213001541\" target=\"_blank\">Policy coherence and food security: The effects of OECD countries&#8217; agricultural policies<\/a><\/strong>, by Jonathan Brooks<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>More coherent agricultural policies can strengthen global food security.<\/li>\n<li>The spill-over effects of OECD countries\u2019 agricultural policies have declined.<\/li>\n<li>OECD countries should replace trade-distorting instruments with targeted alternatives.<\/li>\n<li>Structurally higher food prices have changed the policy landscape.<\/li>\n<li>The coherence of emerging economies\u2019 agricultural policies is increasingly important.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a title=\"Rawlins et al. (Food Policy, 2014)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0306919213001814\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Got milk?
