For those of you who have an interest in food policy, the blog that accompanies NPR’s Planet Money has a nice post on food prices.
In that post, Abdolreza Abbassian, an economist for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, discusses the rise of biofuels, an increasing demand for food in the developing world, disappearing stockpiles, and speculation. Abbassian also discusses who will likely suffer from the current high level of food prices as well as what this means, concretely, for the US. In other words, topics that should be familiar to readers of this blog.
